Jessie J

Jessie J Biography
Born in Chadwell Heath, London on 27 March, 1988, Jessie began at 11 years in show business. She appeared in a West End production of Whistle Down the Wind by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Six years later she wrote her first song, Big White Room, which has become something of a signature piece for her. Later she studied musical theater at the renowned BRITS academy. While her life seems like a big adventure she will be quick to admit that she had a very ordinary life as the youngest of three children of a mother who worked as a nursery school teacher while her father was a social worker. She describes her family as “creative” though she was the only one who showed an interest in performing. She had signed on with the now-defunct Gut Records, having fallen to bankruptcy. She now has a publishing arrangement with SONY ATV and shows great promise as a writer. Her song, Sexy Silk, was picked by Nivea for a campaign. She has also written for Chris Brown and Lisa Lois who won the Holland X Factor competition. Miley Cyrus was responsible for making Jessie J's song, Party In The USA, a number one hit on iTunes.

Jessie J is a personality who celebrates her sexuality and gender while at the same time seeking to push the envelope for femininity. She can be a cuckoo, a creep, a queen or a clown, whatever it takes to get her message across. As of this writing she has her debut album, Who Are You?, out now released through Lava/Universal Republic. She has toured with Sugarbabes, Girls Aloud, Chris Brown, Jools Holland, Taio Cruz, Macy Gray, and Cyndi Lauper.

Recently Jessie has linked her self with Universal Music Group and has a deal with Lava/Universal Republic Records in the US, while also enjoying a partnership with UK's Island Records. Of her new first album she states,

"I feel like my album is an example of what exists in the world of music right now. It's like my album is an iPod... it’s like when you go clubbing these days, you don't have a pop room and a separate R&B room, they're all together. People just appreciate great music..."

Jessie J seems determined to leave an indelible mark on contemporary music.
